Abstract
We examined variations and relationships in halitosis and oral microbial plaque of tooth and tongue and saliva caused by using oral hygiene devices, that is, tooth brush, tongue cleanser and mouthwash, and a transfer food of oral hygiene devices, that is, coffee. Tooth brush and coffee have a high effect on a decline in halitosis from results using Oral Chroma and the removal of dental plaque from value of measurement of O¡¯Leary index and CFU/§¢. Tongue cleanser has a high effect on a decline only in plaque of tongue. Mouthwash has a low effect on decline in halitosis and removal of microorganisms in plaque of tooth and tongue than tooth brush and coffee. Saliva is highly decreased in CFU/§¢ by all of oral hygiene device and coffee. From the results of Gram¡¯s stain for classification of oral microbial colony according to application of tooth brush and coffee, Tooth brush and coffee have a high effect on decline in all type of oral microorganism, more particularly decline in Gram positive and negative bacilli on dental plaque of application of tooth brush and saliva of application of coffee. Based on the above results, physiological oral malodor is affected by dental plaque than plaque of tongue and is effectively decreased by reduction of the gross quantity of oral microorganism, especially reduction of Gram positive and negative bacilli.
